One of the secrets of homeschooling is that it’s just as much about educating the parents as it is about educating our children. As we consider our goals for homeschooling our children, we are forced to take a look at our own lives. Are we where we want to be? Are we at peace with our own lives? Do we want more from life? Are there things from our past that continue to hold us back? If we want our children to have a better life, what does that mean, and why aren’t we searching for this better life for ourselves?
The fact is: we can’t lead our children down a path we’re unwilling to walk ourselves.
Our children need to see us exploring, discovering, learning, changing, and growing. They need to see how we work through failure. They need to know that our weaknesses define us as much as our strengths. They need to see us living in this place self awareness, not making excuses, or blaming others for our failures, but instead owning up to our mistakes and enlisting help from others when needed.Continue Reading
