Our Unity is Critical

November 25, 2016 By Alecia Baptiste Leave a Comment

I’ve been spending a lot of time reading and listening to Christian’s response to this election. It’s quite interesting.  As we all know this election has most of the country polarized.  And so is the church.  When I read  comments like, “How can a Christian vote for____?”, I get so annoyed!  Why do so quickly question each other’s identity?  Do we become sons and daughters of the Living God because we vote for the “right” candidate? Is that what makes us a Christian?  Do we somehow become unsaved because we vote for the “wrong” candidate?  I think most of us are very clear about the answer to these questions. Jesus did ALL of the work.  We simply receive the extravagant gift he offers.

What’s most disturbing to me is that the church is responding no differently than the rest of America to this election.  This election has exposed some the deeply embedded divisions which exist within the body of Christ.  It’s also exposed the truth about our hearts. It is NOT a pretty sight! This is very clear.  We need a Savior!  Thankfully, we have one.

There is a lot I don’t know about the complexities of the problems in our nation and world.  A LOT!  But I do know this: Jesus wants his body to be unified as ONE.Continue Reading

Listening to the ONE VOICE

October 31, 2016 By Alecia Baptiste Leave a Comment

We live in a culture where there are so many voices. There are the voices of your parents. The voices of your teachers and coaches. There are the voices of the media. There is the voice of your doctor. There are the voices of your friends. There are the voices of the books you read. There are voices coming from every direction. Everybody has an opinion about what you should be doing. Everyone has an agenda for you and your family.

It can be so overwhelming and confusing!

The voices keep us full of fear of not getting it all done or not doing it all right. The voices burden us with guilt. The voices keep us striving to do the next thing. The voices keep us confused about what we should be doing.

I propose that we spend less time listening to the voices and more time listening to the ONE VOICE that really matters. Only One voice brings peace to the soul and freedom from guilt and fear. Only one voice lightens our burdens and heals our deepest pain. Only one voice resurrects the dead, and turns darkness into light.

That one voice is the voice of the Creator of the Universe, the Living Word, the All-powerful One, Our Father, our Lord and Savior.

More Than a Hem

This was originally posted on a previous blog page of mine in 2011.

We are all familiar with this story which occurred as Jesus was on His way to Jarius’ house to heal his daughter. The crowd was pressing in on him in every direction. And yet, some how this woman managed to anonymously touch the tip of his garment. Instantaneously, she was completely healed. After receiving her healing, she tried to sneak away quietly, hoping Jesus would never know that she touched Him. However, Jesus stops and calls her out. He asks who touched him. Of course, this sounds like an absurd question because there were many who were touching him.Continue Reading
