Attitudes and Values of the Kingdom of God

October 18, 2017 By Alecia Baptiste 2 Comments

Matthew 5:3-11

He said:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

This summer I completed a devotional series on the Be-attitudes.  In Jesus’ sermon on the mount, he teaches us how to be true citizens of his heavenly Kingdom.  He shows us how to recognize people of the Kingdom.  His kingdom is not like kingdoms of earth.

We make his kingdom visible on earth.

An Invitation to pray for Healing for our Country

What if all the people of God joined together in prayer for our country?  What if we genuinely cried out to God to heal our land every time the National Anthem is played? What if this song which represents, America’s fight for freedom became the catalyst for true freedom?  What if this song and the flag, spurred God’s people to battle in the heavenly and earthly realms for our country and our world?

May we bow our heads in humility, and repentance, seeking the face of our God, asking Him to do what humans have been powerless to do–Heal our land.

This is what I plan to do every time the National Anthem is played.  Will you join me?StockSnap_L9MGC617HI

“…if my people who are called by my name would humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I WILL HEAR from heaven and will FORGIVE SIN and HEAL THEIR LAND.  Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.”  2 Chronicles 7:14-15

A Time of Reflection

January 9, 2017 By Alecia Baptiste Leave a Comment

happy-new-yearIt is good to pause and consider the previous year before charging into the next with all of our goals, scriptures, or words of the year.  As we ponder and pray over our life, we are able to see the hand of God at work in our lives.  We are able to have a better perspective on the direction we’re going in our lives and to decide if we need to make changes or continue moving forward.  The beginning of a new year is a wonderful time to reflect, to celebrate God’s goodness in our lives and to pray for His plans and purposes for the coming year.

Make no mistake about it.  God had a plan for your previous year.  He definitely has a plan for this coming year.  The question is: Will we choose to cooperate with His  plans or will we demand that He bring our plans to pass?  Keep in mind that He will work against any plans that contradict his plans, yet he pours out lavish grace to those who humbly submit themselves to His plans.

In other words, he propels his plans forward, and he thwarts any other plans.

Here are some questions that I’ve used to reflect on the previous year.  Perhaps they may help you as well.Choose only the questions that are most helpful for you.  There is no obligation to complete them all.Continue Reading

Lessons from Nature

November 25, 2016 By Alecia Baptiste 2 Comments

VZWH4VMI19I really wanna be a gardener. Maybe some day when I have more time, I will be. I absolutely love being outdoors. I’m sure it has a lot to do with me growing up in the country. I grew up with lots of land and space around me. Trees. Flowers. Critters. The wind blowing against my face is like “God kisses” to me. When the sun is shining and there is a cool breeze blowing through the trees, I feel like I’ve tasted a glimpse of heaven. I really feel closer to God when I’m outdoors.

I’ve learned so many lessons about life as I’ve observed and studied nature, plants especially. I’ve been praying for clarity and direction about some things in my life lately. And as he often does, he uses plants to point me to the answer. That’s why I need to be a gardener.

He’s been teaching me that we’ve all been created and chosen by Him to do good in the world. Just as an apple tree was created to produce juicy, delicious apples which provide nourishment for people and animals, we have been created to provide what others are in need of. I’ve said this before, you are the answer to someone’s prayer. People around us need our fruit. We need their fruit as well.

When I look at the variety in nature, I realize that God is a God of infinite diversity. There are many different types of fruit. Different animals flourish on different types of fruit. Each fruit has its own unique beneficial qualities. We can’t expect to have all of our nutritional needs met by eating only one type of food, even it’s a SUPERFOOD! We need variety in our diet, because our bodies need so many different types of nutrients in order to stay strong and healthy.

Each unique fruit meets a unique need.Continue Reading
