Homeschooling With Courage

July 28, 2014 By Alecia Baptiste 4 Comments

It takes courage to homeschool.

It takes courage to decide that we, the parents, can do something better for our children than what the experts have suggested. (How dare we have the audacity to think that our Creator would tell us what our children need?)

It takes courage to swim against the tide. (It’s hard too!)

It takes courage to tell friends, neighbors and our family, that we’ve decided to educate our children as they look at us as though we’ve lost our minds. (Sometimes we question our own sanity.)

It takes courage to have your children with you all of the time, with no breaks. (It’s ok to daydream about how dreamy it would be to have your children in school during the day.)Continue Reading

You’ve Been Chosen

May 10, 2014 By Alecia Baptiste 4 Comments

You.

Yes, you.

You have been chosen.

Chosen to be the mother of your children.

Yes, you with the issues.  The shady past.  With all of your mistakes.

Yes, you.  The one who doesn’t have your life all together.

The one who doesn’t have a clue what you’re doing.

The impatient one.

Yep, I’m talking to you.

I know you often think your child needs a different mom.

I know you wish you could be somebody else.

But you need to know that your children need you.

Not somebody else’s mom.

You.

I know you wish you weren’t sick.

Or so impatient.

Or that you were more talented.

Or ….. more perfect.

Or knew what the heck you were doing.

Your children need you.

Let that sink in to your very core.

Do you believe it?

The Master of the Universe, in His infinite wisdom chose you to be the mother of your children.

He had an infinite number of options.

He considered every possibility.

He weighed each one carefully and thoroughly.

He knew your issues.

He knows you through and through.

And He still. chose. you.

He is able

to take your brokeness

your inadequacies

your lack of understanding

your imperfections

and somehow

do something through you so magnicificent

that you cannot begin to fathom it.

You’re a mom.

You are precious.

The work that you’ve been given is life changing.

And you have not been left to accomplish this lofty calling unaided.

The God of the Universe is ready, willing, and able to help you.

You’ve been chosen.

Now step into your calling with boldness, confidence, courage, and humility.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Confessions of a Mom with a Graduating Senior

April 28, 2014 By Alecia Baptiste 11 Comments

Today’s post isn’t written as Alecia, the homeschool Coach, but as Alecia–mom.  I hope you don’t mind me sharing my heart with you this week.

My oldest son and I just spent the weekend together, just the two of us.  I took him to an event where basketball players aspiring to play in college were able to showcase their skills in front of college coaches.  It was a great opportunity and  yet a very difficult environment to really show coaches your best.  Why?  Because everyone else was there to show their best as well.  I hated that my son’s basketball career, which has been so full of many amazing moments, had come down to that one day.  I hated that he had to enter the court as a gladiator before the glaring eyes of spectators to prove his value as a player.  That’s A LOT of pressure.

And yet.   I was so proud of the way he handled the pressure.  He did not cower before his competitors.  He stood strong.

Like a man.

That’s probably because he is a man.  (It’s so hard for me to admit it sometimes.)
